V24
AV24 port lets you attach items such as call loggers or printers to your telephone system. A V24 is the most common interface found on telephone systems.

VAN
Value Added Network. Network built using the communications offerings of traditional common carriers, but connected to computers that permit new types of telecoms tariffs to be offered.

Is a visual display unit which in some telephone systems can be used as an operator console.

VOICE CALL PAGING
Voice call paging lets you announce calls through the loudspeaker of another extension. The receiver can then answer the call without picking up the handset. This is only available on extensions with a hands free facility.

VOICE MAIL
Voice mail acts as a sophisticated multi-functional answer-phone. Callers can leave personal messages directly in the receivers mailbox who can then retrieve it later or from another telephone.

VOICE MESSAGING SYSTEM
Hardware and software products that operate with most PBX, hybrid or key systems allowing users to send, receive and redirect voice messages through office telephone systems and computers. Also called voice mail.

VOICE PROCESSING SYSTEM
Hardware and software products that encompass voice messaging, voice recognition, voice response and any applications that deal with the processing of voice communications.

VOICE RECOGNITION
A system that translates human voice into computer commands. Also known as speech recognition.

VOICE RESPONSE SYSTEM
A computer connected device that can selectively link sentences of stored words to create an appropriate spoken message.

VPN
Stands for virtual private network. This is when you configure your communications and computers to act as a private network but they are in fact utilising the PSTN or ISDN networks.
